It’s easier to kill the faith in others than nourish it!
Do you realize your ‘family faith’ can influence you positively or negatively, it can nurture your faith or kill it? Do you realize your faith/lack of faith can nourish or kill the faith of your children, neighbor, or friends? Just as bad influence is contagious so also is Faith! Are you in doubt? Read slowly…
2 Maccabees 7:1-2
There were seven brothers who were arrested with their mother. The king tried to force them to taste pig’s flesh, which the Law forbids, by torturing them with whips and scourges. One of them, acting as spokesman for the others, said, ‘What are you trying to find out from us? We are prepared to die rather than break the laws of our ancestors.’
POINTS FOR REFLECTION
1. The Presence of the MOTHER signifies the ROLE OF THE FAMILY in nurturing or killing FAITH! Are you an agent nurturing faith in your family? Do you still uphold and teach the Catholic faith to your children?
2. FAITH IS NOT MAGIC OR MIRACLE it is a “living experience” in the promises of God! This means that Faith once acquired must be nurtured to grow otherwise it dies.
3. Only a mature Faith can withstand DAILY MARTYRDOM: hardships, temptation, trials, delays, etc, without giving up. How well do you help to restore peace, hope, or nurture the faith and prayer life of your family members?
TASK: Make it a point of duty to pray for and with your family members. Declare now like Joshua: “AS FOR ME AND MY FAMILY WE SHALL SERVE THE LORD” (Josh. 24:15).
I pray for you: Since two persons cannot walk together unless they agree (Amos 3:3), I declare that your faith shall uplift the faith of your family members so that whenever you are united in prayer, God shall hear and grant your requests in Jesus name. Amen.
