Luke 13:31-35
Some Pharisees came up to Jesus. ‘Go away’ they said. ‘Leave this place, because Herod means to kill you.’ He replied, ‘You may go and give that FOX this message: Learn that today and tomorrow I cast out DEVILS and on the THIRD DAY attain my end. But for today and tomorrow and the next day I must go on, since it would not be right for a prophet to die outside Jerusalem.
POINTS FOR REFLECTION
1. The bible describes the devil as accuser of the brethren (Rev.12:10), father of lies (John 8:44) and evil one whose task is to kill and destroy (John 10:10). It is the devil that incites men to sin, rebel and manipulates people into deviations of all kinds. It is the devil who incites people to jealousy and envy. The devil knowing we have known him enough, decides to hide behind human faces, actions and ideologies in order to establish and perpetuate evil.
2. The Pharisees who came to threaten and scare Jesus away from their territory together with Herod are nothing but agents of Satan to thwart the mission of Jesus Christ which is the salvation of the world. This battle began long before the creation of man. A battle fought right from the spiritual realm into the physical. A battle Michael and his angels fought driving Satan out from the heavenly places into the earth (Rev. 12:7). The devil who is never tired continues to fight back that the mission to save the world will not come to pass, manipulated Herod to kill the child Jesus; and now his son (another Herod) continues in the line of his father’s satanic manipulation to stop Jesus.
3. Listen child of God even though Jesus Christ have defeated the devil and gave him an expiration time ( Rev. 12:12), he does not relent. But like a wounded lion, he goes about seeking those to devour (1Pet. 5:8) and those to join him to eternal damnation; always waging war on the children of God (Rev.12:13-17). But I say to you NO ONE CAN STOP YOU! THE DEVIL AND HIS AGENTS CANNOT STOP YOU OR DEFEAT YOU IN JESUS NAME…
Today the devil has taken new forms and adopted new strategies of deception, manipulation and possession using unsuspecting things or objects, persons or groups, deviated lifestyles and world views. Hence, apart from acts like satanic worship, magic, voodoo, necromancy, black magic, tarot, palm reading, talisman, spiritism, occultism, summoning spirits, etc, new forms like Freemasonry, the Illuminati, LGBTQ- communities, Pro-abortion groups, and immoral acts like abortion, homosexuality, lesbianism, Transgenderism, Bisexuality, Queer, and vain acts like Tattooing, body mutilations called “body enhancements” are new manifestations of same evil. No wonder St. Paul warns us in Ephesians 6:12: ‘that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against Principalities, against Powers, against the Rulers of the darkness of this world, against Spiritual wickedness in high places.’
4. Therefore anyone still thinking the devil does not exist or is expecting to see a beast or dragon before believing is under Satanic deception and is prone to manipulations. The devil now adorns himself with the most beautiful apparel, speaks beautiful words with enticing ideas and ideologies that proposes and commands ‘absolute freedom’, ‘religious indifference’ and ‘respect of human rights’ both on moral and immoral things. No wonder many Governments of the world are satanic agents and the youths, his unfortunate victims. Any one who knows the devil exists should not be afraid but follow the divine instructions laid out in the Bible so as to master him and his antics. For this reason St. Paul admonishes us in Ephesians 6:13-19:
That is why you must rely on God’s armour, or you will not be able to put up any resistance when the worst happens, or have enough resources to hold your ground.
So stand your ground, with TRUTH buckled around your waist, and HOLINESS for a breastplate, wearing for shoes on your feet the EAGERNESS TO SPREAD THE GOSPEL OF PEACE and always carrying the shield of FAITH so that you can use it to put out the burning arrows of the evil one. And then you must accept salvation from God to be your helmet and receive the word of God from the Spirit to use as a sword.
PRAY ALL THE TIME, asking for what you need, PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT ON EVERY POSSIBLE OCCASION. NEVER GET TIRED OF STAYING AWAKE TO PRAY FOR ALL THE SAINTS…
TASK: Child of God read No. 4 above again and examine your life with these questions: Are you truthful; does your life reflect truth?Are you making conscious efforts to be holy or have you allowed worldliness to possess you? Are you eager to hear the Word of God and Preach it on every platform you find yourself: work, school, market, internet/social media or are you shy to identify with the Gospel of Jesus? Do you have faith; what is the level of your faith? Do you Pray or complain; How is your prayer life? Are you distracted when praying? Do you pray in the Spirit?
