3 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD ALWAYS SAY THE TRUTH | Wednesday 5th Week of Lent | Day 30

Do you know lie is very expensive even though it is very easy to tell?

A lady once told me how she got talking with a man online who stays abroad. After some time, the man took the relationship to the next level by indicating his interest to marry her and told her to inform her family that he would come to do the marriage rites by his next vacation. Hoping she would be his future wife, he sent lots of gift and monies to her to prepare for their marriage not knowing the lady is married with 3 children. Now in her confusion she called me to seek my counsel on what to do: whether to leave her present  marriage (where she no longer finds joy) or to tell the man truth? If you are in my shoes what would you tell her?

On this 30th day of our Lenten observance the Lord gives us 3 reasons why we should always say the truth. If you wish to know continue reading slowly…
Cf John 8:31-42

To the Jews who believed in him Jesus said: ‘If you make my word your home you will indeed be my disciples, you will learn the truth and the truth will make you free.’ They answered, ‘We are descended from Abraham and we have never been the slaves of anyone; what do you mean, “You will be made free”?’ Jesus replied: ‘I tell you most solemnly, everyone who commits sin is a slave. Now the slave’s place in the house is not assured, but the son’s place is assured. So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
POINTS FOR REFLECTION
1. Child of God, ‘Truth’ is not just a statement about a fact or a word that is right, but Truth is a person, and that person is Jesus for he says I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life (Jn 14, 6). And elsewhere the bible tells us that love and Truth (righteousness) walks in the presence of God; truth is is God’s garment (Ps 89:14-15). What that mean is that TRUTH and God cannot be separated. Truth defines God and is the Way that never misleads and is Life that never dies.
2. When we tell the truth or stand for the truth, it sets us free- freeing us from vices and error and bondage the way Shadrach Meshach and Abednego were saved by God for standing for the truth of their faith- worship of One God against worship of man (anthropolatry) or idolatry (Dan 3:14-28).

3. When we speak the truth or stand for the truth or hear the truth always (even when it pains) we become more like God.
TASK: Make it a point of duty to say the truth today, paying attention to your actions and speeches. God bless you.
