STOP MOCKING JESUS BY CALLING HIM KING

Jesus was not proclaimed king on a throne, but on the cross: what a mockery! So if you are also going to tow the path of the RULERS, SOLDIERS and one of the CRIMINALS crucified with him, I beg you in the name of God, don’t hail Jesus king! If you’re still doubtful read slowly…

Cf. Luke 23:35-43

The people stayed there before the cross watching Jesus. As for the RULERS, they jeered at him… ‘The SOLDIERS mocked him too, and when they approached to offer vinegar they said, ‘If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.’…One of the CRIMINALS hanging there abused him. ‘Are you not the Christ?’ he said. ‘Save yourself and us as well.’ But the other spoke up and rebuked him. ‘Have you no fear of God at all?’… Jesus,’ he said ‘remember me when you come into your kingdom.’

POINTS FOR REFLECTION

Child of God, whenever we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King we mock God when our ‘words or songs of praise’ does not tally with our actions. When we profess faith in God but live our lives like unbelievers. In the gospel group of persons of diverse social status mocked Jesus. They one way or the other represents us in our social capacities as LEADERS, LAWMAKERS or CITIZENS:

1. The RULERS represents LEADERS- both political and Religious leaders. They take the lead in everything happening in the society either by consent, silence or indifference!

2. The SOLDIERS represents LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES (lawmakers, lawyers, police, soldier, etc). These are used by leaders to achieve their aims. So they contribute to the good or corruption of the society by enforcing the law or by being accomplices to crime and corrupt practices of leaders!

3. The CRIMINALS represent the people or citizens and reminds us that no one is righteous before God (Rom 6:23). But among them there is a “good one” who represents those that accepts their sins, faults as contributors to the evil in the land but daily makes sincere efforts to repent and change. These are the ones that “have the fear of God” and to them the Lord Jesus says: ‘today you shall be with me in Paradise’. Which of these categories do you find yourself today?

TASK

On this day, the solemnity of Christ the universal king, let your words of praise to God tally with your actions. Tell Jesus: I am Sorry for my sinfulness 10 times; and pray now: “Holy Spirit of God; let my actions be true songs of praise to You. Amen.”

May the Lord bless your resolutions now and forever. Amen
