Mercy Behind Bars: CLP Abuja Secures Freedom for 30 Inmates

“I was in prison and you visited me…” — Matthew 25:36

On Saturday, the 16th of May, 2026, Come Let’s Pray Catholic Family Ministry, Abuja (CLP Abuja), walked through the heavy gates of the Nigeria Correctional Service in Suleja, Niger State. It was a day where the true meaning of Easter—resurrection, liberation, and new life—manifested not just in words, but in a profound historic reality for dozens of souls.

What transpires when a ministry brings the light of Christ into a place of confinement? Chains break, hope is restored, and the heavy burden of despair is lifted.

A Day of Liberation: Releasing 30 Souls

The most dramatic and emotionally charged moment of the outreach was the triumphant release of 30 inmates. These individuals, who had been held behind bars, were granted their freedom back to society.

To ensure their transition back home was dignified and smooth, CLP Abuja provided some of the exonerated individuals with:

  • Transport Fare: Direct financial support to help them journey safely back to their families and loved ones.

  • A Warm Meal: A hearty, nourishing plate of food to celebrate their very first moments of freedom.

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass & Spiritual Renewal

For the inmates remaining within the facility, the outreach brought a deep sense of spiritual sanctuary. The prison yard was transformed into a place of holy worship as the community gathered for the Celebration of the Holy Mass with the Catholic inmates.

Hands were lifted in prayer, voices joined in worship, and powerful prayers of intercession were offered for the inmates’ reformation, comfort, and ultimate spiritual freedom.

Practical Mercy: Toiletries and Provisions

Recognizing that dignity also requires physical care, CLP Abuja distributed a massive consignment of basic toiletries and essential provisions to the inmates. These items were carefully chosen to bring comfort to their daily lives and to remind them that they are neither forgotten by society nor abandoned by God.

Honoring the Vessels of Divine Mercy

An outreach of this historic magnitude requires immense sacrifice, planning, and a community united in love.

To Our Leadership: We stretch forth our hands in gratitude to the incredible leadership team of CLP Abuja who handled the complex logistics of this prison mission:

  • Chidimma Odimegwu – Coordinator, CLP Abuja.

  • Uchechukwu Nkobie – Assistant Coordinator. Your administrative dedication and shepherd hearts made this divine intervention possible.

A Special Apostolic Tribute: Our hearts overflow with joy and reverence for our beloved Founder and Spiritual Director of Come Let’s Pray Catholic Family Ministry, Rev. Fr. Simon Onyekachi Madu, OSJ.

Father did not just support this mission from afar—he graced the event with his presence. He stood at the altar behind prison walls, celebrated the Holy Mass, and personally laid hands and prayed for some of the inmates. Thank you, Father, for leading by example and bringing the tangible presence of the Good Shepherd to the lost sheep.

To Our Precious Donors: To every donor who answered the call, your financial contributions literally bought back the freedom of 30 human beings and fed more. You did not just give money; you became instruments of a real-life Easter miracle.

Walking in Newness of Life

As the gates closed behind us and 30 free individuals walked ahead of us into the sunset, the message of May 16th was clear: No wall is too high for God’s mercy to climb. CLP Abuja remains a fierce force of charity, committed to breaking chains and shining light into the darkest corners.
